I fish clear water and make long casts. Lots of times I reel in the last half of the cast. Until recently, 5.2:1 Pflueger President reels have been budget-friendly (around $50). They are rock solid so I didn't consider alternatives. With MSRP increase to $75, I'm thinking there may be a better 6:1 or faster option in the same price range.
I'm hesitant try a different brand without someone really vetting them. Used Daiwa Laguna reels for years, I saw the Daiwa Regal has several sizes of their 6.2:1.
